Tool belt wisdom for high performersMaybe we don't actually need MORE toolsMy whole life my Dad has worn a tool belt. He builds houses and barns as a contractor. His belt has dried concrete splattered all over it. As a kid I marvelled at how many tools he had, yet he always seemed to be wanting more.
You have a tool belt too. It might not sit around your waist like Dad's. It might be a proverbial tool belt filled with all that you’ve learned about communication or serving your customers.
But like Dad, you probably want more tools.
When my clients are stressed at work they want MORE tools. But they don't actually need more. And neither do you.
We all have plenty of tools on our belt already. Plenty of old wisdom. We don't use those tools, because we're not SEEING the tool belt. Your belt is right here. Right now. In the present.
When our thoughts are wrapped up in future fears or past regrets, there is no way to see what is right here. Right now.
I used to think that being present was a nice goal to have.
And then last year I realized that being present was actually one of the 3 rituals of high performance.
And just three weeks ago I realized, at a deep level within, that being present is all we really have. I can ONLY be my best right here. Right now.

This one’s for you Dad. In honour of your concrete-splattered tool belt!

What's up with Rhonda...I did not expect to have such a powerful shift in Canmore, Alberta. Last month I met with 34 colleagues from across North America who are thought leaders: authors and coaches with a mission for changing the conversation on the planet.
Going into the meeting, I knew I'd get the chance to ask them for support with something - but what? When we were given a few minutes to jot down thoughts I scribbled some drivel about asking for advice on finishing writing my book.
Then, as I sat listening to a man I'd just met describe his personal story, it hit me. I bee-lined to the "next batter up" seat and waited anxiously. When I stepped on stage I asked for help to incorporate spirituality into my work so I can help people at a deeper level.
Their answer totally surprised me. They said...you're already doing that Rhonda. And as tears welled up in my eyes, I felt the most powerful wave of energy coming from these amazing people.
I hadn't realized it. But now I see that I have always done that. It's part of who I am.
And now I'm embracing that. And the effect is amazing! In my coaching and my speaking work I'm going straight to the heart of things without dancing in professional lingo. It feels like there is ease to it, and it feels just right.
So that's what's up with me! And now, what's up with you...?
